AVANT-GARDE

Each of these designers is known for their avant-garde garments. Pushing the limits and constantly critiquing themselves, they bring a silliness and enthusiasm often missing in this particular industry. Here's where are the fun went.
For the spring 2009 Maison Martin Margiela collection, Margiela used numerous recycled items including old wigs, reworking them to emphasize different aspects of his garments. Viktor & Rolf, who snuffed the high-fashion world that regularly flocks to Place de la Concorde and Jardin des Tuileries for exclusive shows, launched their spring 2009 line for all to see on the net-only. Using only one model, Shalom Harlow, from the extreme Swarovski crystal candy spiral dress to the minimal white dragon t with embellished collar, they exhibited their outrageous spirit. Vivienne Westwood who is notoriously anti-commercial responded to the recession with sort of do-it-yourself pieces. The clothes looked like they had been house-hold items previously and practically screamed deconstructionism. Plus Viv’s hot.

  1. This is pretty fascinating, particularly given your use of the term - deconstruction... are they deconstructing the commercial industry? Hope so...
